Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is one of the most life-threatening and potentially fatal complications associated with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) during in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Although the pathogenesis of OHSS remains unclear, elevated serum estradiol (E2) levels before human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) administration are associated with the risk of OHSS. The pineal hormone melatonin and its receptors are expressed in human granulosa cells and have been shown to stimulate E2 production. However, the effect of melatonin on the expression of aromatase, an enzyme responsible for a key step in the biosynthesis of E2, in human granulosa cells remains to be determined. Here, we demonstrate that melatonin upregulates aromatase expression in primary cultured human granulosa-lutein (hGL) cells through the melatonin receptor-mediated PKA-CREB pathway. Using a mouse model of OHSS, we demonstrate that administration of the melatonin receptor inhibitor luzindole inhibits the development of OHSS. In addition, the expression of ovarian aromatase and serum E2 levels are upregulated in OHSS mice compared to control mice, but this upregulation is attenuated by inhibition of the function of melatonin. Moreover, clinical results reveal that aromatase expression levels are upregulated in hGL cells from OHSS patients. Melatonin and E2 levels in the follicular fluid are significantly higher in OHSS patients than in non-OHSS patients. Furthermore, melatonin levels are positively correlated with E2 levels in follicular fluid. This study helps to elucidate the mechanisms mediating the expression of aromatase in hGL cells and provides a potential mechanism explaining the high E2 levels in patients with OHSS.Subject terms: Endocrine reproductive disorders, Endocrine reproductive disorders  相似文献

High-power fiber-to-fiber coupling is extensively used in fiber laser applications,and its performance is determined by coupling efficiency.We demonstrate a novel method for alignment and monitoring efficiency by detecting backscattering power at the fiber end cap.The relationship between alignment error and backscattering power is determined by simulations and experiments.Through this method,a state-of-the-art kW-level fiberto-fiber optic switch is developed(transmission efficiency>97%).It performs well for longer than 60 min.To the best of our knowledge,it is the first time to establish the mathematical model based on this method.Our results can provide guidance in high-power fiber-to-fiber coupling.  相似文献

Raspberry-like (RB) nanoparticles hold potential for diverse applications due to their hierarchical morphology. Here we developed a novel tandem synthetic approach of nonsynchronous growth based on photo-mediated reversible-deactivation radical polymerization, enabling simple, efficient and bottom-up synthesis of RB nanoparticles of uniform sizes at quantitative conversions of fluorinated monomers. Chain transfer agents of different chain lengths, concentrations and chemical compositions were varied to tune the diameter of RB particles. Importantly, fluorinated RB nanoparticles obtained with this method allow facile post modifications via both covalent bond formation and intermolecular physical interactions without disrupting the RB morphology. The facile nature of this method and versatility of the obtained fluorinated RB materials open new opportunities for the development of functional materials using nanoparticles.

Three alcohol/water-soluble porphyrins,Zn-TPy PMe I:zinc(II)meso-tetra(N-methyl-4-pyridyl)porphyrin tetra-iodide,ZnTPy PAd Br:zinc(II)meso-tetra[1-(1-adamantylmethyl ketone)-4-pyridyl]porphyrin tetra-bromide and Mn Cl-TPy PAd Br:manganese(III)meso-tetra[1-(1-adamantylmethyl ketone)-4-pyridyl]porphyrin tetra-bromide were employed as cathode interlayers to fabricate polymer solar cells(PSCs).The PC71BM([6,6]-phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl ester)and PCDTBT(poly[N-9″-hepta-decanyl-2,7-carbazole-alt-5,5-(4′,7′-di-2-thienyl-2′,1′,3′-benzothiadiazole)])-blend films were used as active layers in polymer solar cells(PSCs).The PSCs with alcohol/water-soluble porphyrins interlayer showed obviously higher power conversion efficiency(PCE)than those without interlayers.The highest PCE,6.86%,was achieved for the device with Mn ClTPy PAd Br as an interlayer.Ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopic(UPS),carrier mobility,atomic force microscopy(AFM)and contact angle( )characterizations demonstrated that the porphyrin molecules can result in the formation of interfacial dipole layer between active layer and cathode.The interfacial dipole layer can obviously improve the open-circuit voltage(Voc)and charge extraction,and sequentially lead to the increase of PCE.  相似文献

It is well‐known that homogeneous electric fields can be used to generate giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs). Herein we report an interesting phenomenon of formation of GUVs and lipid tubes simultaneously using a nonhomogeneous electric field generated by point‐to‐plane electrodes. The underlying mechanism was analyzed using finite element analysis. The two forces play main roles, that is, the pulling force (F) to drag GUVs into lipid tubes induced by fluid flow, and the critical force (Fc) to prevent GUVs from deforming into lipid tubes induced by electric fields. In the center area underneath the needle electrode, the GUVs were found because F is less than Fc in that region, whereas in the edge area the lipid tubes were obtained because F is larger than Fc. The diffusion coefficient of lipid in the tubes was found to be 4.45 μm2 s?1 using a fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) technique. The method demonstrated here is superior to conventional GUV or lipid tube fabrication methods, and has great potential in cell mimic or hollow material fabrication using GUVs and tubes as templates.  相似文献

The influences of hyperbranched polyethylenimine(h PEI), which possesses many reactive amino end-groups, on the blending properties of bisphenol-A polycarbonate(PC) and amorphous polyamide(a PA) were systematically investigated. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) were used to observe the effect of h PEI on morphologies of PC and a PA phases in bulk blends. While the interfacial fracture toughness between planar PC and a PA layers with and without h PEI was studied by using augmented double cantilever beam(ADCB) method. Results show that the compatibility in PC/a PA blends can be significantly improved by adding a small amount of h PEI, mainly due to the interchange reactions between the polymers leading to the formation of block copolymers, cross-linked polymers and molecules with other constitutions. The augmented double cantilever beam experiments showed that the reactive process drastically reinforced the interfacial adhesion between planar layers of PC and a PA. However, degradation takes place during annealing at 180 °C, which was responsible for the production of small molar mass species of PC.  相似文献
